Adult hormonal acne: what a skin clinic can and cannot do.
In-studio work can calm the skin, clear congestion, and fade the marks. The hormonal driver is a medical question. A good plan handles both.

TANOVA AESTHETICS is a clinical skin studio at 2100 E Hallandale Beach Blvd, Unit 201, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009, led by Tatiana, who performs every appointment. Adult acne along the jawline and chin is a common reason women in their late twenties, thirties, and forties book a consultation. Many have already tried facials, spot treatments, and new cleansers. This article explains what a skin clinic can realistically improve, which parts of hormonal acne need a physician, and how the studio's staged Acne Correction Protocol fits alongside medical care.
What the pattern looks like
Hormonal acne in adults tends to sit on the lower face: jawline, chin, around the mouth, sometimes the side of the neck. The spots are often deep and tender, slow to come to a head, and slow to leave.
The timing is the other clue. Many patients see flares in the week or so before a period. Others notice acne starting after stopping a contraceptive pill, after pregnancy, or during a stressful stretch of months.
If acne comes with irregular periods, new hair growth on the face or body, or thinning hair on the scalp, see a physician. Those signs can point to an underlying hormonal condition that needs medical evaluation.
What in-studio work can reduce
A clinic cannot change your hormone levels. It can change a good deal of what those hormones produce on the skin.
Congestion is the first target. Blocked pores and comedones are the ground that inflammatory spots grow from, and clearing them with enzymes, acids, and controlled extraction reduces the working load.
Surface inflammation is the second. Calibrated peels and calming steps can shorten how long a flare stays angry and how visible it is.
Then there are the marks: red and brown spots that stay for months after a breakout heals. These often bother patients more than the acne itself, and they respond well to peels and, once the skin is calm, to microneedling.
Barrier damage is the quieter problem. Many adults with acne arrive on a routine that is too harsh, with several strong actives layered at once. The skin becomes dry and irritated on the surface while still breaking out. Repairing that is part of the plan.
What needs a physician
The treatments that act on the hormonal driver are prescription medicines. Spironolactone, combined oral contraceptives, isotretinoin, oral antibiotics, and prescription-strength topical retinoids are all decisions for your dermatologist, gynecologist, or endocrinologist.
Tanova does not prescribe and does not advise on which medication to take. What we can do is tell you honestly, at the consultation, when the pattern suggests that topical care alone is unlikely to be enough.
How the studio coordinates with your doctors
At the first visit Tatiana asks about your cycle, current and past medications, supplements, pregnancy plans, and what you have already tried. That history shapes the plan as much as the skin does.
If you are already seeing a dermatologist or endocrinologist, the in-studio plan is built around your treatment. Some medications change what the skin can tolerate. During isotretinoin, for example, peels and microneedling are generally postponed, and the timing is set with your dermatologist. With your permission, we can share notes and photographs with your physician.
If you are not under medical care and the pattern looks systemic, we will say so and suggest you see one. In-studio work continues alongside that, and it often helps patients get through the weeks before a prescription starts working.
The staged Acne Correction Protocol
The Acne Correction Protocol runs as four to eight sessions of 60 to 90 minutes across six to ten weeks. It starts with diagnosis and photographic mapping under fixed light.
The first in-studio phase is decongestion: enzymatic and acid-led work, controlled extraction, and antibacterial steps. The Deep Combined Facial Cleansing often opens this phase.
In parallel, the home routine is rewritten with clinical-grade actives and a four-week rebuild, so the skin is not overloaded while it adjusts.
Corrective sessions follow, alternating BioRePeel and HydraFacial so the cycle stays interrupted without stripping the barrier. Inflammatory spots often settle within two to three sessions; comedonal patterns take longer, usually four to six.
Residue comes last. Once active acne is controlled, marks and texture are treated with microneedling with PDRN. Starting that work while breakouts are still active risks adding inflammation.
The reasoning behind staging is set out in acne correction is a plan, not a facial.
Timing photographs to the cycle
Hormonal acne moves with the month, so a photograph taken during a flare and one taken in a quiet week can make the same skin look very different. Where possible, we schedule reviews at a similar point in your cycle. That keeps the comparison honest and avoids reading a normal premenstrual flare as a failed plan.
A South Florida note
Heat and humidity add their own congestion. In the rainy season, roughly May through October, heavy sunscreens, long-wear foundations, and sweat under the chin strap of a helmet or along the jaw from a phone pressed to the face all contribute. We choose lighter textures for the summer routine and keep SPF non-negotiable, because post-acne marks darken quickly in this sun.

Frequently asked questions
Can a facial cure hormonal acne?
No single facial can. In-studio treatment can reduce congestion, inflammation, and marks, often substantially. The hormonal driver itself is managed by a physician when systemic care is needed.
Will I have to stop my prescription to have treatments?
Usually not, but some medications change what the skin tolerates. Tell us everything you take, and the in-studio plan is adjusted around it, with timing decisions left to your physician.
How long does the Acne Correction Protocol take?
Four to eight sessions over six to ten weeks, followed by residue work on marks and texture once the acne is under control.
